Ptilotus Press is a community publisher established in 1996. Based in Mparntwe/Alice Springs, it is managed by a collective of local writers and is devoted to the publication of Central Australian writing. Ptilotus Press is a partner of the Northern Territory Writer’s Centre.
Ptilotus’ (from the Greek ‘ptilon’, meaning feather, and pronounced ty-LOH-tus) is a herb with woolly flowers in creams, pinks and purples. There are at least 28 species of ptilotus in Central Australia.
As a non-profit, all surplus funds from book sales are put back into producing future publications and supporting the local literary community. In the past, through the sale of our titles, the Press has supported the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the Red Dirt Poetry Festival.
Due to the size of Ptilotus Press, we are only able to accept submissions on a project to project basis. Typically, an announcement will be made via our website and social media channels as to when a submission period opens. At present, we are producing the full-length memoir of Frank Byrne, Living In Hope, and are not currently open for submissions. Please keep in touch for announcements throughout 2019 and if you have any enquiries, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
